the main deity is ananda padhmanabha near his shrine there is yoga narasimha in his right hand side.chandana kaappu- application of sandalwood paste on god gives more lustre divine atmosphere here. there is a story. when swathi thirunaal maharaja was euling the kindom, some bad elements tried to kill him by offering poisoned theertha=holy water which was offered by the pundit[priest]lord narasimha saved the king who drank the theertha and killed the priest. another time maharaja was saved from a elephant send to kill him. on very rare occasion we can hear the roar of a lion in the middle of night. some believe that lord narasimha used to walk the corridors at night as a protector.

how the small communities living together conduct, celebrate festivals is a lesson for management studies. usually a committee was formed for organisation, maintenance collection etc. the members collect money, food items like rice, dal coconuts etc from all the residents in around the temple area. people volunteer for such causes. these contributions are the major income for any festival. this unity, oneness a sense of belongining is the life force- energy for the public.this sense is missing in big cities.

ANANDA PADHMANABHA SWAMI TEMPLE is the main attraction for the tourists.a visitor should visit this temple before leaving the city- a kind of belief. inside the temple a huge ANJANEYA-HANAUMAN sculpted in wood welcomes you in a shelter. this HANUMAN has tremendous power. years back a fire brole out in side the temple, and it reached the god also. out came the GOD in his full splendour with KATHA on his hands in real form and his anger emanating from his eyes destroyed the fury of fire. when this miracle happened lot of people witnessed this with their own eyes, some who are alive still vouch for it. devotees offer pure butter to be applied in the idol to fulfill their wishes. some offer vadamala- a garland made of vadas also.worshipping hanuman gives strength, inteligence, courage. read hanuman chalisa daily

Thiru ananda puram -trivandrum got its name from this temple.the abode of lord maha vishnu in a reclining pose is considered as one of the 108 divya desam. when the god showed his viswa darshan to the rishi muni divakaran he occupied three places, his thiru mugam at thiruvalla, body-nabi at thiruvanandapuram, his lotus feet at thiruppapoor. then the muni begged the god for a small form for convenient worship.then god took this form for the devotees. this is the legend. first the idol was a wooden idol, when the mandir was renovated after a major fire by the then maharaja of travancore a new idol made up of shaligram was installed. here three doors welcomes u before anandasayana- vishnu reclining on adi shesha the snake, brahma, sridevi bhu devi on his nabi, his right hand touching the lingam, the lamps, the chanting os OM NAMO NARAYANA gives u a memorable divine experience. the garba-graha was built on a single stone. the gegendary belief is that the things dropped in front of badmanabha belonged to him. so u are not offering any sashtanga namaskaram here. daily kheer- palpaysam is offered to the lord as prasad. the residents mostly give the name ananda padhmanaban to one of their children, mostly the eldest son.the kula sekhara mandap in front is a sight itself. the pillars are unique like suseendhram temple in kanyakumari dist. when u tap a pillar there comes the sound of a instrument.lord ganapathy, siva, sankara narayan and other deities are sculptured in a fine artistic form.

in kerala goddess BHAGAVATI is worshiped every where. bhagavati is - kali destroyer of all evils. usually people with mental imbalance, hysterical problems were brought to this temple for a cure.this particular ritual was conducted usually at night time, after the doors were closed for the public. in some of the temples u can see the image of kali in her true form under the feet of devi.those whose deeds are good, usually saw the smiling face of BHAGAVATHI when they worship feel peace, but the wicked bad souls are scared to enter and worship. they only see the kali face of the devi.purity of mind is very important to worship goddess bhagavathi.she assumes the role of mother who is kind, compassionate to her children, ready to punish at the same time.Mr. pratap's nice comments shows his depth of understanding, kindness, humanitarian values.
